Dear Friends in the Diocese of East Carolina,
I have served as your bishop for sixteen years. In those years we have worshiped, prayed and witnessed together to the glory of God and for the spread of God’s reign. Thanks be to God!
Yesterday I met with the Standing Committee of our diocese to announce my resignation as your bishop, effective February 28.
I have accepted a call and election as Bishop Provisional of the Diocese of Pennsylvania and will assume duties in Philadelphia in early March. It is an honor to be elected to serve that diocese at a critical point in its continuing life and ministry.
I do love and treasure our Diocese of East Carolina and count it as a privilege to serve as your bishop for these years. I have full confidence in the leadership of the Standing Committee going forward, and in the skills and abilities of a wonderful and dedicated staff at Diocesan House.
I will miss you all. Please be assured of my prayers in the days ahead. Those prayers will be for God’s continued guidance as you move into the future God prepares for this blessed diocese. Each and every prayer of mine will arise from a deep well of thanksgiving for you.
Blessings and Peace,
